Each Friday your child will receive the spelling list for the next week. The list will be taped into their composition books. All homework is to be completed in this composition book. Your child will have written homework on Monday and Wednesday nights. Please see the inside cover of the notebooks for suggested Monday night assignments. Wednesday night's assignment is to have your child take a practice test and then practice any missed words. Each Friday morning the composition books will be turned in and checked, and then a new list will be issued.
You will notice that we do not give the spelling lists in order. We incorporate the spelling skills with our language lessons when possible. We find this helps bring more understanding and meaning to spelling and language rules.
Even though the lists have a varied number of words, your child will be tested on 20 words each week. We will not tell your child which words are tested so they will need to practice all of them during that week.
Typically around December, your child will be expected to complete some of their words in cursive. We begin with 5 words and then gradually increase to the entire list. Selected words should be practiced in cursive on the homework. This will ensure that they are comfortable with letter formation and connections of the tested words.

Please be aware, a few words are not accepted by the program,
therefore they may not be on the list.
